ACTIVITIES

Here are some of the community projects Our Chapter is involved with.
MEMORY BOX PROGRAM
The Memory Box project is a special program that enables the talents of the members of the DASF to provide some comfort for the families who have suffered the loss of a child due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. A Memory Box is a lovely painted box provided to hospitals in which parents can place whatever remembrances they have of their lost child, such as a birth/death certificate, I.D. bracelet, cap etc. Every painted box represents sympathy and love flowing from our brush strokes to the families suffering infant loss. With the help of many people we'll continue this program until the need is no longer there
Painted Suitcases for the Children's Network of Florida

We have chosen to paint suitcases for the Foster Children's Program as an on going project. Our club members will be painting suitcases for children in South West Florida who will be taken from their homes into Foster Care. In most cases these children arrive at their new home with all their worldly belonging in a plastic trash bag. Our club members will be painting new and used suitcases in good condition for these children. Our aim is that every child will have his or her own suitcase to take with them.

Murals
Library Murals
Members of the Decorative Artists of Southwest Florida worked on murals at the Ft Myers Beach Library located on Estero Blvd, Ft Myers Beach.. The director found the Decorative Artists while looking for community organizations to participate in the beautification of a few blank areas in the library. After meeting with members of DASF it was decided to do "Florida" style murals. Where once was a big blank wall as one came down the stairs from the second floor of the library, now is a mural that makes you feel as if you are looking through a window at the Gulf of Mexico. Over the bookstacks and the conference room now have added pleasure to the eye. Approximately 20 members participated in this endeavor. Home Depot donated much of the paint.

Paint From the Heart Membership Appreciation Luncheon 2005

We all enjoyed this years Membership Appreciation Luncheon. Fran Peterman, Deloris Richter, Fran Poppell and Judy MacLaren were honored for their service to our Chapter. Joan Haynes was singled out as this years Volunteer of the Year for her many years of dedicated service to our club while running the Library. We all enjoyed a lovely luncheon supplied by many of our members. Many Thanks to the committee who worked on the luncheon, it was a fun day. One of the highlights of the day was the judging of the suitcases. We had a hard time choosing winners from the entries. Thanks to all who participated, the suitcases will add to the Foster Childrens Bank of Suitcases.

Some of the Suitcases judged in the Paint From The Heart competition.
